Product Description
The 5557 Timken is a removable cone for a single-row tapered roller bearing, designed to work in tandem with a separately available cup to create a complete bearing. This cone contains the inner ring and rollers of the bearing, with conical raceways on the inner and outer rings and tapered rollers that allow the bearing to withstand radial and axial forces in one direction.
The geometry of tapered roller bearings minimizes sliding movements between the raceways and rollers, reducing component wear. Proper bearing operation requires a minimum load. The separable cone and cup make mounting and adjustment of axial clearance or preload easy during assembly.
For reliable operation, it is best to replace both the cone and cup simultaneously, and to use components from the same manufacturer to avoid potential bearing problems caused by internal profile differences, material variations, and tolerances. Always pair the 5557 Timken with a matching cup from the same manufacturer for optimal performance.
